Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect for my first waxing appointment?
Sensation will differ based on a couple of factors:
- the area of the body you're having waxed
- your personal pain tolerance (skin may be more sensitive if you're menstruating)
All of our estheticians are certified. We'll take great care to ensure your first waxing experience won't be your last!
How often do I need to wax?
The hair growth cycle is anywhere from four to six weeks. We recommend waxing monthly to ensure best results.
How long does my hair need to be for waxing?
We use waxes designed to grip those short little hairs, but for best results hair should be about a 1/4 inch (or the length of a grain of basmati rice)
How do I prepare for a wax?
You should exfoliate the area to be waxed about 24 hours before your treatment. You may also reduce discomfort by taking a pain reliever about 30 minutes before you come in.
Is there aftercare I need to know about?
You should avoid getting really sweaty (yes, that too) for about 24 hours after your service. We also recommend waiting a day or two before you start exfoliating again. It also helps to wear looser clothing to minimize friction and irritation immediately after your appointment.
How should I care for my skin in between appointments?
To prevent ingrown hairs, you should be exfoliating regularly. Other than that, business as usual in terms of your normal skincare routine.
What's the difference between strip wax and hard wax?
Strip wax has more of an exfoliating effect, and works best over large areas such as your legs. Hard wax is formulated to be most effective on smaller, more sensitive areas of the body (think bikini or underarm).
We have both on hand to ensure the best possible results!
Are there any medications that are contraindicated?
We don't recommend waxing if you currently use Accutane or similar medications that thin the skin as a side effect. Speak to your doctor before making an appointment.
